The index is computed automatically from the wine lists Swiss restaurants currently publish, collected continuously by Lunchmenu.ch. Entries with incomplete or implausible details are automatically excluded, as are priced add-ons and prices in foreign currency. Bottle prices only count within the standard 70-80 cl window, so half bottles and magnums cannot skew the median; bottles without a stated size stay out. For open wine the per-decilitre price is the headline figure; it is computed where the pour size is stated on the list. The raw per-glass price counts regardless of pour size and is reported only secondarily. Each restaurant counts once: its price is the median of its listings, and a city's value is the median of those per-restaurant prices. Only restaurants in Switzerland are included; cities with fewer than 5 restaurants are not listed individually. The range shows the middle half of restaurants (p25 to p75); the 95% confidence interval of the median is computed distribution-free from order statistics. Wine regions are only counted, with no price claims attached; spelling variants of one region (Toscana/Toskana) are merged and bare country names excluded.
An origin only counts when it is unambiguous ('Rhône' does not count as France, for instance, since Valais also lines the Rhone); coverage is reported. Wines are counted as labels (the same wine by the glass and by the bottle counts once). Each restaurant counts exactly once here too.
